The Origins of Fertile Soil

Fertile Soil Marketing was created because I love small businesses and love getting the opportunity to help them grow, from websites and online visibility to the practical pieces that help them move forward.

Running a small business today can feel overwhelming. You’re trying to serve customers, manage employees, juggle finances, and still find time to think about your online presence. Most business owners don’t need flashy marketing — they need clear direction, trustworthy guidance, and someone who actually understands what it’s like to carry the weight of responsibility. That’s the heart behind Fertile Soil Marketing.

One of my earliest clients came to me frustrated because their website was nearly impossible to find online — even for people actively searching for their service here locally. Not long after our conversation, he trusted me to build a website for another one of his businesses. Using what I had been learning,

that site now ranks at the top of Google locally for its category.

I’m still early in this journey, but that first result was the seed that convinced me this business could truly help other owners grow something lasting.

My name is Chris Wagler, and Odon, Indiana has always been home for me. After graduating from North Daviess High School and earning my degree from Oakland City University, I came back with a desire to serve the same community that shaped me. After graduation, I began helping operate the Simon J. Graber Community Center, where I’ve spent more than 15 years managing and growing an organization that serves families throughout our community. During that time, I learned how important it is to work with people honestly, communicate clearly, and follow through on what you promise.

I’ve seen firsthand how frustrating it can be when what’s delivered doesn’t match what was promised. Working with people day in and day out showed me how much trust really matters, and those experiences shaped the way I think about business today. I wanted to build something steady and honest — something that simply does what it says it will do — and that’s what eventually became Fertile Soil Marketing.

Fertile Soil Marketing is intentionally a one-man operation. That means every project gets my full attention, flexibility, and care. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions — only in what truly fits your business. When clients come with questions or challenges, my goal is simple: to meet them where they are, help them understand their situation, and walk through what makes the most sense moving forward.

I come from a family of small-business owners who believed deeply in integrity, respect, and doing right by people. My faith shapes the way I do business, and I strive to live by the Golden Rule — treating every person with the same honesty and respect I would want for myself. My wife Angie and I are raising our kids here in Southern Indiana, and this community is home. These are my neighbors, friends, and family. There’s a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit here, and I want to continue helping local business owners build something that lasts.

Whether you’re ready to build a website, improve your visibility, or simply want honest guidance, I’d love to talk. If you’ve worked with me, I’d be grateful if you’d share your experience. And if you’re just getting started, reach out — no pressure, just a real conversation about what might help your business grow.
